KISUMU AIRPORT OCS ON EXTORTION SPREE

Leaders and businessmen passing through Kisumu Airport for their various destinations are now demanding that the Kenya Airport Police Unit Commandant Patrick Obimo take action on Kisumu Airport Officer Commanding Station an Inspector Kimeli due to his constant begging habits which is a total embarrassment to the police force and abhorring corruption.

The leaders and businessmen who spoke to this reporter on strict condition of anonymity wondered why the Commissioner of Police and the Airport Unit Commandment Mr. Obimo is resilient about the inspector who literally begs from them wondering if he is not on a payroll and is leaving on handouts he begs from them.

On the Junior Police Officers at the airports they said that there is no way junior officers can be persecuted yet their boss is till left at the station.

An MP from Western Kenya who is an Assistant Minister in the key ministry in the government said that he has raised the issue with the KAPU commandment without any action being taken against the officer.

“It really hurts that the police force can sit back and watch as one officer just messes up constantly begging and harassing passengers with unrealistic financial demands from us saying his boss wants harambee contribution for him’’ the MP said.

A minister who is a regular flier too complained about the officer wondering why despite the issue being raised no action has been taken against him.

“We should not be seen fighting the said officer, we just wonder why he is still left to serve the public yet he is an eyesore, his juniors have just taken after him, if change has to be made and serenity be returned within the airport due to hisexit,the better” the minister added.

A CEO with a leading sugar manufacturing industry within Western Kenya says that both inspector Kemeli and his junior officers are truly an eye sore and a disservice to the police force.

“You see it really embarrasses you when the officers demands something from you anytime they see you, whereas giving is an option, they have made it their rights which is really an embarrassing to the police force” the CEO who says he usually arrive at the airport at the eleventh hour to avoid the said police officers plus their boss said says.

A Luo MP says that the police Officers should be got rid of and new officers be posted.

“We as leaders we cant say something s but you journalists you should help us, as an MP you don’t expect me to go the Police Commissioner to discuss with him an OCS?” He said.

Constables within the airport says that the inspector has put a target for them to be giving him daily hence their behaviors.

Contacted for comment Inspector Kimeli wondered to the reporter what’s wrong “if he is where he is employed”
