LCs sentence sheep to death

Citizens of Kanyum village in Pallisa district were treated to drama recently, when local authorities sentenced a sheep to death by slaughter, for mounting a goat. The sheep, belonging to a man identified as Okong, went into Ejakait’s homestead, and mounted a kid.

Ejakait, who alleges to have witnessed the incident, arrested the sheep and took it to the local authorities. He claimed it was not the first time the sheep was committing this abomination.

When the local authorities convened a court to settle the matter, Ekong, acting as the sheep’s representative, denied the allegation, claiming that there was no evidence that a sheep could be interested in a goat.

To prove the matter, the court ordered that the sheep be untied and the goat brought to the venue of the inquiry. To everyone’s amusement, the sheep went straight to the goat and attempted to mount. On witnessing that he had lost the argument, Ekong accused Ejakait’s goat of indecency and accused the goat of not covering its behind and shoving it towards his sheep to attract it.

The court however ignored Ekong’s acclamation and went ahead to pass its judgment, saying the incident was an insult to their culture. Residents were forbidden from eating or selling the sheep’s meat. Ekong was also ordered to buy Ejakait a goat.
