Kibaki, Raila in closed-door meeting

President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga held a two-hour meeting at Harambee House.

The two leaders met at the President’s office, without the company of any Cabinet minister or senior Government official, as is always the tradition whenever the two meet.

Though the agenda for the meeting was not readily established, it is widely speculated that it was over issues of nation building and the controversial sale of the Grand Regency Hotel.

The last time the two principals met without any other official was at Sagana State Lodge shortly before announcing the Grand Coalition Cabinet.

ODM leaders, including Lands Minister James Orengo, have protested against the sale.

Raila might have sought a brief from the President, whom the Finance minister Amos Kimunya said discussed the deal with his Libyan counterpart, Muammar Gaddafi, before the property was sold to the Libyan investors.

After the morning meeting, the duo left for a function at Nyayo National Stadium.

Even though the meeting was held on a weekend, a crowd milled around Harambee House and only left after the two leaders drove out.
