Outside forces to blame for ODM-K feud, says VP
By Mutinda Mwanzia
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka blamed external forces for fuelling dissent in ODM-Kenya.
He warned he would soon “name and shame” the forces.
Kalonzo spoke as more than 300 party councillors backed his 2012 presidential bid, saying he was their choice to succeed President Kibaki.
Kalonzo, who spoke at the party headquarters, urged his supporters to stay focused as they prepared for the battle ahead in the next General Election.
“We have in the past known the politics of pain and betrayal and we will certainly not be derailed in our mission,” said Kalonzo.
He said ODM-Kenya was a peaceful party.
Dr Julia Ojiambo, ODM-Kenya’s deputy leader, who was present at the meeting, denied she was a rebel or a traitor.
Ojiambo said she was committed and would ensure the party remained vibrant.
She also cancelled the August 15 annual delegates conference she had called after “talks” with the party’s top leaders.
“We are now a united family and I call on MPs who have had issues in the past to return home,” said Ojiambo.
Kalonzo dismissed claims that the party was split, and asserted that leaders were united.
RISING DISSENT
“We know those who have been fuelling dissent and time to make names public will soon come,” said Kalonzo.
He said the Political Parties Act was timely and would bring sanity to parties.
On Tuesday, two ‘rebel’ party MPs came under fire at the meeting for allegedly undermining Kalonzo.
Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo and his Mutito counterpart, Mr Kiema Kilonzo, were told to toe the line or quit the party.
“The so-called rebels have no choice but to join us or go,” said Mr Daniel Muoki, the MP for Mwala.
Mr Mutula Kilonzo, the Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development and ODM-Kenya secretary-general, said the party would not be dissolved.
“We will not swallow PNU neither shall we allow ourselves to be swallowed by anyone,” said Mutula.
Party councillors, led by Mr Jackson Ngovi, demanded an increase of allowances, saying they be paid from the Consolidated Fund.
Ngovi urged MPs to take a Motion in Parliament to address their demands. Kalonzo said he would lobby his colleagues to pass the Motion when it goes to Parliament.
He said the demands were realistic and the party would sponsor the Motion.
ODM-Kenya mandated Kangundo MP and deputy Government Chief Whip Johnstone Muthama to take the Motion to Parliament.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThese are not parties, these are vehicles for personal gains. It is sad that we do not have strong parties with idealogical agenda capable of transforming Kenya into a modern prosperous African nation.
It true that kenyans are lacking parties form on idealogical agenda which is not a mistake of
ordinary kenyans. It is the mistake of the first presedent who never believed in following truth.Kenyatta appeared to kenyans, before he became the presedent,a man with a vision for all kenyans. But,after he was elected the president,he became somebodyelse.
He first started ruling like a king without party policies. He never cared about the policies of the party which voted for him.
Kenyatta concerned was individualistic and tribal. He was surrounded by his greedy relatives and friends whose interests were the same,MAKING MONEY BY ANY MEANS.This man is cause of the problems we have in kenya.
Kenya is very unlucky to have been ruled by opportunists who are not concerned with the welfare of the country.
These greedy rulers are intereted in what they gain as individual but pretending to be mindful
of their ethnic groups when they need protection. These leaders have been talking slogan of nationalism when they need votes during elections but practise the opposite.
Look at the Kibaki government, kibaki and his muthaiga club’s friends have become billionaires within a space of hardly five years. This is a record in the whole world. How they have become billionaires is through greedy attitudes where they take all the contracts for themselves without following the right procedures.
While these few people are swinging in money, their tribemen and women are just struggling to make ends meet. When kenyans question Kibaki government mistakes ,he calls for meeting of all community to protect him.
In fact ,until we removed these greedy lots from leadership ,we can not have parties with
clear idealogy. There are people are just opportunists and will do anything to be in a winning side.
Kenyans saw them during mau mau, immediately after independent, during Moi, and kenyans are seeing them in their true colors during Kibaki leadership. These people are really enjoying the hardwon uhuru for themselves and their children.
