By Dr Barrack Abonyo,

A discussion of formation of a new political movement by old and young Turks in Kenya and abroad who upto date had only been serial bloggers is raging. The political class and the powers that be for upto the past three to four years had simply dubbed them as “cyber noise makers”.
However, this time they seem to be very very seriouse and may be the change that Kenya is yearning for. The initiators come from all walks of life. From Bunge la wanainchi on the streets to elites that form the middle class to university students to high school kids, the kenyan public is up for a crusade to decide their future. Tired and weary of the status quo. Embarrassed by poverty and bent knees of years of begging, the sons and daughters of Kenya have said enough is enough. They have questioned the intelligence of dynastic power acquisition and have found it wanting.
After Moi came Gideon Moi, after Kenyatta came Uhuru Kenyatta, after Oginga Odinga came Raila Odinga, after Mudavadi came Musalya Mudavadi and may be after Mwai Kibaki there will be Jimmy, after Raila Odinga there will be Castro Raila and after Uhuru Kenyatta there will “someone” Uhuru.
If this trend was communsurate with delivery of service, development or creation of new opportunities, I bet you the bloggers would have not thought about this. However, the leadership achievements for the last 40 years is so sad to talk about. Kenya, where food was never a problem has become one of the poorest countries where starvation is not a dream. Kenya has become a nation with the second largest slum in the world, “Kibira”. Children walking naked and bear foot has becomne a routine while the MPs and their wives do their shopping overseas for clothes that can be made locally. Just why should this continue is a question in the mind of every Kenyan.
While an MP earns 1.2 million Kenya shillings a month and does not pay tax, an ordinary Kenyan live under a dollar per day and still have to pay tax on it. While the political class like Uhuru, Raila, Mudavadi, Kalonzo, Kibaki and their associates own houses and land worth millions of dollars, an average Kenyan lives in a slum without electricity, running water or even a toilet.
The second largest town in Kenya sits on the shores of the second largest fresh water lakes in the world and still the residence drink from seewage water. The garbages in many cities reamain uncollected and if they are collected they are dumped close to the slums so that the unforturenate children of the poor who are the majority can go and scavenge. No jobs for highly qualified university graduates while the relatives of political class who could not even pass primary school education get cheap purchased degrees and come back to be excutives of parastatals and big companies.
The Kenyan people have asked repeatedly just why they keep on recycling these folks and the answer has been “he comes from my tribe” ha! ha! Yes the political class has manipulated their own people for their own family and friends gain just by using the fact that Kenya people speak fourty two different dialects. This time this may not work because while the bloggers have names like Ochieng, Kamau, Nyangau, Omulokoli and the rest, their names are not quite reflective of the language they speak. Some are from intertribal marriages while others were brought up in places where their only friends were from a malgamation of tribes and hence this time the tribe factor may fail to work in favour of the political class.
I for one support this initiative. Just recently, there was hope that democracy may eventually be achieved. First we hoped that the political parties had seen enough of the effects of thwarting democracy in Kenya only to realize that they dont get it. Each and every party “acclaimed” the so called party leader. The trueth was that there was no election at all. At one time you could marvel at how democracy in Kenya works after all the women were not considered in ODM and PNU so called alection and the “acclaimed” leadership had to go back to the drawing board to see how they could appease afew of their women folk. What a mess? what a traversty to democracy in a country where there are great minds? What an abuse of the people’s intelligence? How long must these people take the Kenyan public for granted? How long must the Kenyan people contend with this? Can the Kenyan public get the democracy they deserve? Can Kenyan people stumble upon Obama?
Well that is what the bloggers have decided to do. They are in search of an Obama through their movement and if you are one please submit your application because the bus is moving and you may not get in once it catches speed.
The meeting for this movement is set in Nairobi Kenya in january. The date and the venue can be obtained from the following initiators
1. Nicholas oyoo oyookraft@yahoo.com 2. Okiya Omtatah Okoiti omtatah@yahoo.com
3. Peter Odhengo odhengo@yahoo.co.uk
Many are interested and this may be the beginning and the end of impunity if all Kenyans are truely tired of a rule by the few forever and ever. Communications below are attached for your viewing.
Dr. Barack Abonyo.
Nancy says: Sundays are normally family days, sio siku ya siasa. Guys, whatever date we settle on, meeting from 4.00PM on wards should be possible for all, ama?
Rawson Mugambi says: no problem on my part…. I can create time for my other commitments
Martin Kengei says: I think this is a great start. The 5th of January is a very tricky day coz most people will be heading back to work. I suggest we hold the first meeting says this Friday or Saturday for those guys who are around then hold another one next weekend for the rest who will be coming back into town next week.
TONY Obura says: Well to tell you the truth, I don’t really know where the youth are headed; do you have a good number of individuals so we can hold a serious brain storming meeting and find a way forward? This is my number in case of anything 0723 156 972. Let us stand up and make a difference and all the others will follow, it starts with you and me are you up so I follow?
Mathias Aguta Says: What has lacked in Kenya for long is a party that inspires patriotism and a nationalistic movement that puts the nation above the tribe. The name must make people want to be part of a revival, a rebirth, a regeneration - a new beginning. I suggest The National Patriotic Renaissance Party (NPRP).
Mathias.
Lattif Shaban says: I support this initiative. For sure Kenya needs a fresh start from the political fiasco that has imprisoned us for so long.
Uzalendo wa Kenya Party (UWAKE) could be another name for consideration
I would be happy to attend the planned meeting early next year
Clarence Jumba Says: Nicholas hope you still remember me we worked together in the moribund National Youth congress on your initiative of the nascent political party count me in, and keep me posted as to any event unfolding.
Onyancha Rodgiers says: You know Nicholas we come a long way. There have been a number of development and you have let me in the cold. Nimambie so that can follow suit too
Having tried ODM, ODMK, KANU AND
the The party is intended to bring all those who have since been refered to as “cyber noise makers” together so that they can decide whether to form a new party or they can join a party that is democratic, concerned about the people of Kenya

There isnt a deadline as such. the deadline is for parties that are already in existance. for us we can organise and our deadline will be six moths after we present our constitution, an ofiice and 100,000 to the registrar of parties.

It appears there is some deadline to be met. Could you guys organize a meeting or a teleconference so that this noble idea is not counted out due to inability to cope with the deadline set by the government.

Omtatah is right
Republicanism should not be confused with Republican Party ideals. Both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party in the US are republican.
Republicanism is about representative democracy where the public appoints (elects) its workers (What we love to call leaders who should really be called servants) through an elaborate interview process (elections and Campaigns) to identify those that will most benefit the republic (The people of Kenya collectively)
What it means is that the state is in place to serve the common good and not individual good and those that do not serve the common good should be removed and others appointed instead (Recall clause).
Unless we want to have a monarchy (Appoint {Moi, Raila, Kibaki or Kenyatta Family} the monarchs,) we have no option but to enforce Republicanism as we have which is being abused and misused by the current elite.

Dear all,
Peace be upon you all.
I am happy and ready to play my small part in this great effort.
I am a republican at heart and would request all in the effort to give republicanism a chance. Kenya is a republic but it has NEVER BEEN GOVERNED AS ONE. Hence, my total belief that if we embrace republicanism as the ideology the inspires, informs and explains our efforts then we won’t become limits to what we can do with the opportunity history has given us to lift our country out of the bog greed has got it stuck in.
Because our leaders, who yesterday adorned glittering reformist garb did not have a solid ideological foundation, they sooner rather than later, ceased being catalysts for change and became total limits. We must avoid that at all costs…
It must matter that our country’s official name is The Republic of Kenya. We are not a kingdom, a fiefdom, a serfdom, a princedom, a dictatorship, an emirate, a junkdom, or a dominion of any kind. We are a REPUBLIC!
Invoking the republican foundations of the Kenyan Nation means that we leaders embrace republicanism, broadly, the ideology of governing a nation as a republic, with an emphasis on liberty, rule of law, popular sovereignty and the civic virtue practised by citizens.
Elected representatives must exhibit the sort of values and behaviour necessary for the republic to survive and flourish….
Republicanism is incompatible with office holders using public power for personal gain. It is worthless calling ourselves a “republic” when generally we have a leadership that does not protect the rights or liberty of the citizens.
Republicanism always stands in direct and firm opposition to any form of dictatorship, corruption, or tyranny in the political realm. More broadly, it refers to a political system that protects liberty, especially by incorporating a rule of law that cannot be arbitrarily ignored by the government, group, or individual.
In a republic elected representatives must use the power which is donated and entrusted to them for the protection the sovereign people, not their destruction. As John Adams put it, a republic is a government of laws, and not of men.
So, the new party we form, if it is to be for the good of Kenya, must be republican in ideology.
Merry Christmas and brilliant 2009.

Already Four Initiatives to Form a Party Are Set To Meet Early Next Year and Discuss Merging
This is to inform Wanabidii that things are quickly moving in the right direction. Before this topic came up we did not know that there were people among us who were thinking of the same initiative to launch a real party for this country.
There is the initiative of The Integrity Quest Party (IQ) party (Nicholas Oyoo)
There is the initiative of Progressive Development Party (PDM) (Peter Odhengo)
There is the initiative of Justice and Development Party (JDP) (Okiya Omtatah)
There is the initiative of Democratic Reformation Party of Kenya (Peter Ligale)
We are trying to coordinate a meeting between representatives of these four initiatives very early in January with a bid to discuss and harmonize their Ideals and instruments so that one will come out of the many, stronger more potent. Any other initiatives are free to join in by contacting the people mentioned above.
Already documents are being exchanged among the initiatives so that the good common grounds are identified. We do not want to take to long discussing in the board room but to move quickly to registration. We also do not want to register a just a party. We want to register THE PARTY as there is a vacuum for a real political party in Kenya .
We are also asking progressive minded individuals to forward their details to either Nicholas Oyoo or Peter Odhengo. We are looking forward to recruiting at least 2500 such persons in this initiative so that it is not one person who will have donated the party’s funds and resources. We will strive to have at least a person from each constituency. That does not mean that that person will be the person identified as the nominee for Parliament
In fact the language each of these parties are articulating is as follows
Carrying out free and fair election of officials of the party and where possible the use of online and SMS initiatives can be employed to help cost saving.
That officials of the party will not double up as parliamentary/civic representative
The councilors/MPs/President/VP/PM/Ministers and all public officials will be workers of the members of the party send to parliament to help the party achieve certain Objectives as set in its documents
That the representatives will have to sign pre-nomination binding agreements with the party allowing their salary reduction, recall clause, paying of taxes, and summoning by the party disciplinary organs to ensure that they perform as per the requirements of the party members
That the party must have ready documents to serve as the manifesto which will be reviewed from time to time as members contribute ideas.
The party will not just be a vehicle to take people to parliament. It will be the main policy formulation vehicle as well as use the forum of the party where so many people are brought together to try and find ways to help its members in uplifting their livelihoods. The party will have to be operational even when there are no elections around the corner.
The party must be deliberately designed to outlive its founders and not be bogged down by personality worship.
If you ask me I think we are rooted in the right foundation. Your ideas and involvement at this time of formation will be highly welcome and needed.
As Franz Fanon said, A generation must rise from obscurity, find its mission, fulfill it or betray it.
The generation of the current political elite found their mission of returning Kenya to Multi-Party. They fulfilled it and letting them continue holding on is allowing this nation to be ruled by a mission and visionless leadership. Our mission is to get this country in the path of achieving first world status. Let dare not betray it, Wanabidii!!
Will the patriots of this country please stand up.

Peter/Abonyo/Oyoo/Barack,
I think that with the prevailing political situation at home, this is a novel and noble idea. However, it is an onerous task that comes with heavy responsibilities that should not be taken lightly or casually. We need a serious movement with which ALL Kenyans can identify and with which they’ll be comfortable, not an ethnic outfit intended to negotiate for political validation by and accommodation with a “big.” We need a movement with credible leaders and members of integrity. We need a movement with a vision, mission and philosophy for posterity. We need a movement with principles and not one that will be used as an electioneering machine to catapult political mercenaries into 1m-shilling-a-month jobs. We need a movement with clear policies and agenda that will make a clear difference for our people and nation. Security, corruption, unemployment and poverty, infrastructure… are a few among our national challenges for which we need clear strategies of tackling. We need a movement which Kenyans can distinguish from the current plethora of parochial and ethnically factional political parties that serve to balkanize our country with nothing to show for the large salaries of their elected political representatives. We want a movement whose elected political representatives will do what they’re elected to do and not just to enrich themselves - legislate for the betterment of our country. Then, we’ll need a movement with the financial clout to penetrate every Kenyan village and directly reach every Kenyan homestead. The good news is that such a movement is entirely possible and our first major advantage is this forum that Ndu. Robert has set up for us. If we can adhere to the aforementioned values, I’d love to be part of the movers and shapers of the movement and I’m sure we’ll go places.
My first branding suggestion would be to reexamine the movement name. Let’s have a brief, catchy name. “Progressive Development Movement,” although with a beautiful acronym, is a mouthful and a little awkward. “Progress” and “Development” basically mean the same thing and you don’t want one describing the other. How about just dropping “development” from the name altogether?
Please engage me as you feel fit.

Dear Wanabidii,
This is to acknowledge with much thanks the receipt of the above mentioned subject. Indeed as Dr. Abonyo indicated, I’m in the final stages of registering a party called Progressive Development Movement-PDM. We’ve done recruitment by getting more then 200 people from all the 8 provinces, we’ve also got founder members from 78 districts as required by the political party Act. We’re still working on the finalist of offcials and I would request that, we join hands NOW to register this party. Iam willing to bring more pro-change agents-wanabidii to enable us raise funds for sumbission to the regitrar. I’ve also discussed the same with Dr. Abonyo and Nick Oyoo.
For more infornation please call me on 0722984992

We do not have to take over a fringe party. We can register ours. Why is it so hard for us to realize that this can be done and it’s not that hard?
The conditions are that a party must have an office and 200 members in each province and at least one member in each district and 600,000
These are conditions we can meet
All we need is 2500 people paying 1000 each and these people will own the party because they paid for it. Not parties bankrolled by one person of r a few connected people. That will be 2.5M. Thats enough for registartion and 1 years party office rent. If we can get a person in each counstituecy=2 0we will have made the district condition.
And we can do an online Convetion using email. it will be a first in the world
Wanabidii, lets nominated proposed party interin Chairperson, Secreratry and Treasurer to start us off on this journey. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.
What are we waiting for. i have been counting people favourable for the idea and the list is growing. What do we have to loose for trying? so much is going for the idea, for one it will be the only non parliamentary, non coucil party giving us all the rights of filling the vacuum of the opposition, albeit outside parliament.

The recent party elections held by different political parties in a bid to comply with new regulations once again proved that as a country we are still a long way from Democracy. All the major parties basically “staged the elections” and none of the current party leaders deserve to claim that they were elected. The party delegates merely met to rubber stamp board room decisions. What is even f rightening is that parties went as far as creating positions to accommodate certain personalities. Nowhere was this so blatant as in ODM where a position of second deputy party leader had to be created to accommodate William Ruto as the party feared the consequences of Ruto and Mudavadi facing each other. In another party, positions for eight vice chairs were created!! While it is laughfable the way our politicians fear to face each other in elections, what is of more concern to be is the fact that doors are effectively shut on new comers or new blood.
While the law will be making it difficult to have anybody come up with a party just for the sake of it, the mainstream parties are effectively being locked up through board-room maneuovers. This might mean that even having some fringe parties to run on with the hope of upsetting the applecart will be more difficult. And with mainstream parties under lock and key of the establishment, it will be a long time before any meaningful democracy is seen in our political space. I see a continuation where the PNU-ODM-ODMK dictatorship is further going to be entrenched as the political space closes up, more so with the continued attempts to frighten the media through legislation. Given that this axis of evil shares the same values, that is to further entrench and enrich the political and big business class at the expense of wananchi, this really is frightening.
It is time that Kenyans started to identify a political movement that can be shaped a nd controlled by wananchi, that whose leadership can be a reflection of the people’s voice and not crafted to satisfy the bloated egos of some big shot politicians. And how can we do this. I don’t have an exact answer at the moment but one of the first steps can be to identify a fringe party and take it over…just musing

I feel saddened to read in todays Newspapers that Kenyans women are spitting fire and saying that parties major ones have let them done.
I feel this is high sense of hyprocisy from our lovely women
I good faith why can’t great people such as Wangari Maathai,Jelimo,Mugo etc mobilise youth and other women to strenghten a party they feel will give them proper representation
Sitting on fence then cry later is wrong.
They had the voice to say no in PNU,ODM ODM-K and KANU but they did not in fact many women attended those delegates meetings
but they did nothing to raise their voices

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackCyber Noise Markers have finally exposed their true colour. After writing about kenya politics
for sometimes, some of these authors have now felt to be politically knowledgeable to form a party which can solve kenya’s socio-political and economic problems within the shortest time.
These very group whose political voices are sounding reform agenda should end up to be pseudo reformists like the ones who were sponored by moi when FORD was about to deliver reforms.
During 1990s moi sponored parties like DP of kibaki,SDP of makau, and some small others to denied kenyans reforms. And indeed ,they denied kenyans political reforms up to this time. Now that kenyans, after long struggle, are suppose to get new constitution which will address kenyans ‘ socio-political and economic problems for the first time for the last forty years of misrule.Raila and other reformists have worked tirelessly without undermining people aspirations. This time the so called Cyber Noise Markers should not accept to be used to block the delivery of a new constitution within the specified period.
The group,if they mean well for the ordinary as they claim, they should just form a formendable
pressure group to see that the promised changes come.We should insist on legal and constitutional changes to reinforce reforms.
It is unimaginable that some yesterday’s ODM candidates who failed to win election have now
turned urging kenyans to accept a party whose policies are not known. It is strange that some
of names that we see are owners of NGOs which are funded to uplift socio-economic standards
of kenyans.Kenyans are expecting leaders to concentrate on areas which are more important
to them. We expect these owners of NGO to continue they good work through the NGO without
mixing politics with their good work.
In fact kenyans should accept forces of retrogression to block what they are suppose to achieve within six months. Our intellectuals must come out to distance themselves from these forces of retrogression. Kenyans are tired of intellectual- on- hire who sustained moi’s leadership for individual gains.Let our intellectuals work for our general problem solutions not blocking reforms.
WE ARE NOT NOISEMAKERS.
It is totally misdirected for the author of the article “Progressive Movement Mr. Abonyo”to call Kenyans Cyber Noisemakers.
These are Kenyans who have all the legitimate right to debate political matters affecting their beloved country and the families left back home.
Democracy is not about forming more political parties because there is room and avenue to misdirect Kenyans.
Kenyan people don’t understand the apparent process that your group has qualified and designed to test the resolved as well as gauge the public political interest on this untamed platform.
Kenyans are still bitter and are not ready to forgive anyone politically that has misled and still confusing them since independence.
When tough questions are raised, people who understand democracy believe such move of progressive group is a defector move and very destructive.
There’s a lot of work to be done in Kenya especially at state house. There is no doubt election was not only rigged but it was stolen and we have an illegitimate president and the vice president.
Kenyans have been separated for the last forty years because of creed and bunker mentality of entitlement in leaderships.
Since second liberation, a little has been achieved but still more work has to be done to have a correct society of a real political compositions.
Political interests need to identify themselves on reform agendas as Mr. Odhiambo did during the Madaraka Day struggle not political parties that don’t have political power for real change.
The Western Kenya Movement for change (WKMC) and its members both in Diaspora and at home disagree with the idea of progressive political party.
We are afraid this timing is very poor and uncalled for especially during this time of profound challenges facing the people of Kenya and its friends.
Kenyans don’t need another unexplained political party mix-ups though the Progressive group have all the legitimate rights and are within their democratic rights to form one.
Kenya is one not forty tribes, Bunge la Mwanainch under Nyongesa and the civil society are doing commendable work beyond imaginable limits. There is need for them to stay intact not loose its political volumes.
They have stood with the people and have suffered for the people. Progressive group need to join such forces to make this coalition government governable instead of mixing the civil society and Bunge la Mwanainch with poor ground.
Western Kenya movement for change (WKMC) urges Kenyans worldwide to join others both at home and Diaspora to work together with other forces that believes in change to bring political sanity and harmonization among the diverse society that is divided along tribal politics.
We need to press this evil politics in state house-Nairobi to understand Kenya does not need illegitimate leaderships.
There are matters as from achieving constitutional freedoms, press freedoms that have been ignored by the illegitimate president Kibaki, equalizing the country resources and civic understanding, providing Kenyans with strong food security and making it a strong democratic country.
There is no time to waste this year because a false promise has to be a reality where it was to be false by recycled tribal leaders.
Majimbo Constitution is the solution for a stable Kenya and unified society.
There is need to have a majimbo constitution that represent Kenya as a country not a tribe.
Saitoti, Kibaki, Uhuru, and Kalonzo must not be cheated to assume Kenya will forget easily about their forced leaderships.
We are still solidly behind ODM as a party not because of tribe or for security reasons from Nyanza to western or central Kenya.
The ODM influence is still vital and directional as per now for Kenyan people.
We need to back it on reform agenda not to run way from it because I was not recognized
for a certain job.

The cybernoise makers are the same to the politicians they want to replace.
The parties we have are more than enough. Just educate the electorate to chhose good leaders and put pressure on political parties to embrace democratic practices. Political parties which allow nandidates to get nominated by thuggery should be deregistered. That is what i would do if I geneinely want change but not to confuse further the already confused electorate by having very many parties.
WHY SHOULD ONE BE IN THE FORE FRONT CLAIMING TO FIGHT FOR REAL CHANGE WHEN THEY CANNOT HONOR PAYING A POOR KENYAN KSHS 5,000 FOR LOGISTICS SERVICES OFFERED TO THEM.IS THIS THE SPIRIT OF DEMOCRACY? IS THIS REALLY TRUE DEMOCRACY KENYANS ARE LOOKING FOR?
