A girl died after snake bite in Mbita

RESIDENTS of Nyandega village in Mbita, Suba district are still reeling in shock following the mysterious death of a 10 girl from a snake bite.
Irene Amondi Otondo was in her aunt’s house in the village last evening when a huge black mamba snake slithered from a nearby thicket and bit her before disappearing.
Neighbors who heard the girl scream in pain rushed into the house and tried in vain to get the venomous reptile but could not manage as it disappeared as quickly as it appeared.
Nyanza Police confirmed the incident and said the girl died while being rushed to the Homa Bay district hospital for treatment.
Students on rampage
Pproperty worth thousands of shillings was damaged after over 1200 students of Iterio Secondary school went on the rampage.
Police boss Kibuchi said the rowdy boys, protesting the transfer of their Principal, Mr. Andrew Otara destroyed several window panes of buildings including the dining hall which was extensively damaged in the 8.30 pm riots.
Kibuchi said police were however called in and they managed to restore calm. No one was arrested during the incident.
A Prison warder shot three women in Kibos
In another incident Kisumu police boss have have launched a man hunt for a Prison Officer who broke into a house at 3 am and seriously shot at three female occupants.
The warder based at the Kibos Prisons was on duty guarding a prisoner at the Kisumu District Hospital before he sneaked out with an ambulance to the women’s house along Mosque road in the company of the driver and another man.
Nyanza Deputy Police boss, Larry Kieng told journalists that the officer and several of his colleagues at the Kibos prison frequents the house where 20 year old Rebecca Kerubo, 19 year old Irene Kerubo and 20 year old Beatrice Nyanjira brew and sell changaa.
Kieng said the three men left the hospital, went to the house and knocked but the ladies refused to open fearing that they could have been up to no good.
The incensed officer then used the butt of his MP5 riffle and broke open the door before he indiscriminately fired several shots at the horrified ladies, injuring Rebecca on the forehead and chest, Irene on the back and Beatrice on the left leg before taking off in the ambulance.
Kieng said police officers called to the scene by neighbors arrived soon after and took the ladies to the Nyanza Provincial Hospital where Irene and Beatrice were treated and discharged. The third victim, Rebecca is still fighting for her life at the hospital.
Police headed straight to the officer’s house in Kibos and found him missing but his gun was abandoned there.
The ambulance driver, Gregory Isaac Omuse and the third companion identified as John Otieno Ojok were however arrested and are being held to assist police with investigations.
Kieng said the three will have to face charges as soon as investigations are over.
A mother poison her own children in Kisii
A 25 years old woman is under arrest after she administered poison to her two children who died while undergoing treatment in Kisii district.
Nyanza police Chief Anthony Kibuchi says the woman is recuperating at a local hospital after taking the poison last evening.
Kibuchi says the suspect differed with her father over her matrimonial problems and later bought a pesticide which she administered to her children aged 4 and 1 before also consuming the poison.
He says they were rushed to Akemo private hospital where the two children passed away while undergoing treatment.
The suspect who is now under police arrest is admitted at the same hospital under serious condition.
Kibuchi says the woman will be arraigned in court once she is discharged to answer two charges of murder and attempted suicide.
The bodies were transferred to the district hospital mortuary for post mortem examinations.
The father of the suspect is assisting police with investigations over the deaths of the two children.
POLICE HOLD SUSPECT OVER ALLEGED INCEST.
In Nyakach District are holding a 47-year-old man after he allegedly defiled his nine year old niece.
The suspect identified as James Osiro Oliech reportedly defied the young girl after he dragged her into a nearby bush.
Nyanza Police Boss Antony Kibuchi confirmed the incident saying, the assailant told the victim to accompany him to a nearby bush to fetch some firewood where he then reportedly defiled her.
Kibuchi said that the suspect had a carnal knowledge of the victim who is his niece and will appear in court soon to be charged with incest, once police conclude investigation into the matter.
A passerby reportedly heard the victim’s destress call and responded positively thus rescuing her in an incident that occurred yesterday at around noon.
He alerted other members of the public who responded too and arrested the suspect before handing him over to police officers at Pap-Onditi police station.
The victim was rushed to Nyando District Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Meanwhile, Police in Kisumu yesterday rounded up six men who were allegedly smoking Bhang publicly at the Main bus Terminus.
Confirming the arrests, Nyanza Police Chief Antony Kibuchi said police were acting following a tip off.
Kibuchi added that a total of 82 rolls of the drug were also netted in the swoop.
The six arrested are ranging from 20 to 27 years age wise.
