Kisumu Municipal Council has embarked on an effort to rid off illegal structures put by the road sides within the town centre. The council town clerk Daniel Ole Ekere has given the owners of such structures a 21 days’ notice to pull down the structures.

In a circular notice, the clerk noted that council will itself proceed to pull down those structures if the period elapses. However, Kisumu Town West Constituency MP Olago Aluoch has protested against the council’s move and called for dialogue.

Hon Olago says he supports the move but must be implemented in a humane manner through consultations and dialogue. He says the exercise should be carried out devoid of acrimony, damage to goods and valuable investments by the small traders who own those kiosks.

Hon Olago called upon the council to convene a meeting represented by the councilors whose jurisdictions will be affected, the mayor and representatives of the kiosk owners.
